ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Since my real interest and ambition lie in composition, painting or the process of mark making it enables, is a most appropriate vehicle in the handling and transformation of particular material, which in my case is photographic imagery.

By composition I do not mean just arranging or general arrangement, however crucial they are to supporting the central activity, but the prioritising of more or less developing form being inherent if not realised or resolved in the photograph.

In attempting to create some kind of visual order and optical sense to the formal relationships observed, figuration, illustration and depiction remain at the very most, only secondary concerns or even incidental.

My ultimate aim in giving expression to my responses is I feel best achieved or at least tested in this way.
